Suffolk Police initiated "Paw & Order" unit to fight crime

Suffolk Constabulary has appointed a new recruit to its Joint Dog Unit after advertising the role. The new four-legged crime fighter is a two-year-old Great Dane by the name of Frank. Frank is energetic but controllable, with a high play drive.

Police Dog Frank’s duties will include detecting explosives, drugs, cash, and firearms, chasing felons, and driving the Dog Unit’s response van when propper coppers don’t turn up for duty.

Frank’s handler, P.C. Ronnie Fellows told the Suffolk Gazette what makes his new plainclothes pooch so well suited to the role. “’’Ello, ‘ello, ‘ello. Wot’s all this then? Yes, well, Frank. Yes. He is doing very well so far. Ive’s been trainin’ im for a coupla weeks now and wot I likes most about Frank is that he’s got a good woof on him. Police dogs woofing is wot a good copper’s dog ought to do.”

We asked the dopey plod, apart from woofing, what else was special about Frank?

Dog unit is so lucky

Dog unit’s “Frank can drive. When he interviewed for the job he explained that he has a clean category D1 license and his hown vee-hicle. He has completed his advanced driving training hand may use emergency ancillary equipment when the specific circumstances warrant it.”

You can’t Win a lot them all

P.C. Fellows told us about a recent driving incident involving Frank.

“Just last week, Frank led the crime team on a high-speed pursuit of a felon who had committed an armed robbery of a building society in Stowmarket. When we pulled the suspect hover and looked hinside the boot of his car, we discovered three bags of shopping including eight tins of Pedigree Chum and a couple of bags of Winalot Dog Biscuits. It was the wrong target. Frank is still learning.”

If you know of a dog that might be suitable for training then please contact Suffolk or Norfolk Police on 101 and ask to speak to the dog unit.
