The A14 outside Ipswich was brought to a standstill today as eager shoppers rushed to visit Primark.
These were the scenes on the busy road as news spread that Primark had reopened for the first time since lockdown began.
Shopping fans who were desperate to buy some cheap underwear and modestly-priced garments were stuck in traffic for many hours.
Ipswich retail analyst Lorraine Fisher, 34, explained: “The Government allowed stores to open for the first time today, and Ipswich was very busy.
“There were long queues outside Primark, and the approach roads into town were jam-packed as a result.
“This is a major boost to the retail sector because the High Street needs to recover from the pandemic.”
The news comes after there were similar tailbacks when the McDonalds Drive-Thru reopened.
