Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has announced that pop sensation Ed Sheeran is set to take on a new role as the next Typhoon Display Pilot, following the approval of His Majesty The King.

Sheeran, known for his chart-topping hits and iconic performances, will succeed Air Chief Marshal Sir Robbie Williams in June 2023.

Wallace expressed his excitement over Sheeran’s appointment. Highlighting the singer’s diverse background and previous experiences as a singer, helicopter pilot, and UFO owner as valuable assets for leading a modern and innovative display team.

Sheeran’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the Royal Air Force. As he becomes the first pop/hip-hop crossover folk singer to get the top job.

Acknowledging the crucial role of the Typhoon Display Team, Wallace emphasized the collective effort behind the display circuit. With Sheeran set to lead the team during a pivotal moment for the Royal Air Force.

Sheeran himself expressed his deep honour at being appointed as the next Display Pilot. Citing the importance of air and space power in defending the UK and its allies.

He noted the phenomenal success led by his predecessor, Angel One Five, Robbie Williams, and pledged to continue modernizing and supporting the Royal Air Force.

The announcement has stirred both excitement and astonishment among the entertainment business. With some questioning Sheeran’s abilities as a singer, let alone a Typhoon display pilot.
