Daily Mail readers were confused this morning after an immigrant won through to the final of the US tennis Open.
Emma Raducanu, 18, has a Romanian dad and a Chinese mum and came to England when she was two.
But rather than being turned back at the border by politicians like Priti Patel, she went on to become a star – the first-ever qualifier to make it through to a Grand Slam final, and all without losing a set.
Mail and Express readers were celebrating her brilliant achievement this morning, before realising the confusing truth.
Bigot Steve Walshe, 43, from Lowestoft said: “Emma has that innate British spirit. True grit and perseverance.
“She has done the country proud; the first Brit to reach a major women’s final since Virginia Wade in 1977.
“Hang on. She migrated to the UK when she was two years old, you say?
“Come to think of it, her surname is a bit suspect.
“She should probably stay in New York.”
