IPSWICH, SUFFOLK – Ageing Geordie pop sensation Chris Rea found himself temporarily derailed from his annual pilgrimage of “driving home for Christmas” last week.

His festive journey took an unexpected twist when he stopped off at the Buttermarket Centre in Ipswich to grab a chocolate advent calendar from B&M. Little did he know, his yuletide detour would become a cautionary tale for motorists everywhere.
The cause? Roadworks surrounding the shopping centre, causing gridlock in the car park. Shoppers, fuelled by festive spirit and rising frustration, found themselves trapped for two hours in a tailback reminiscent of a slow-motion demolition derby.

Amid the chaos, Mr. Rea reportedly remained unruffled, tuning his car radio to the sound of his own unmistakable gravel voice crooning “Driving Home for Christmas.” Witnesses claim he sang along with one shopper observing, “It’s surreal. You’re stuck in gridlock, then there’s Chris Rea, just vibing to his own song. It was like a weird Christmas miracle.”

As traffic finally cleared and Rea headed home to his waiting family in his Cookham, Berkshire, one thing became certain: even Chris Rea isn’t immune to the festive trials of Ipswich traffic. But at least he had the perfect soundtrack.
