BURY ST EDMUNDS, SUFFOLK – The Bury St Edmunds branch of ‘Pets at Home’ has come under fire after a sign near the shop entrance suggested a rather gruesome practice.

The sign, boldly stating “Cats Eyes Removed,” has sparked widespread horror among local animal lovers and has led to an urgent investigation by the RSPCA.

Initially intended to be a simple traffic sign, referring to the removal of reflective road markers known as ‘cat’s eyes,’. The sign’s unfortunate placement has led to a tidal wave of concern. Local residents, upon seeing the sign, jumped to the most alarming conclusion: that the pet store was engaged in the barbaric practice of physically removing cats’ eyes.

“I couldn’t believe my own eyes,” said Marjorie Tittle, a fervent cat owner. Who was one of the first to spot the sign. “I was horrified. How could a store dedicated to the care of pets condone such cruelty?”

Maybe tomorrow

The RSPCA swiftly responded to the public outcry, launching an immediate investigation into the allegations. “We take all allegations of animal abuse seriously,” said an RSPCA spokesperson. “We are looking into the matter with the urgency it deserves, maybe starting tomorrow.”

Pets at home clarifies

Pets at Home, meanwhile, has been scrambling to clarify the misunderstanding. Store manager, Tony Whiskers, appeared visibly flustered in a brief press conference. “This is all a huge mistake,” he stammered. “The sign refers to the road markers, not actual cats. We love pets, we don’t harm them!”

Despite the clarification, the damage appears to be done. Social media is ablaze with outrage, and a small group of protestors has already gathered outside the store, waving signs that read “Save Our Cats!” and “Pets Deserve Better!”
